2005 Female Photojournalist Award - Claudia Guadarrama Guzman

Claudia Guadarrama Guzman has won the 2005 Canon Female Photojournalist Award, given out by the Association des Femmes Journalistes (AFJ). Guzman, who is based in Mexico City, will receive a prize of 8000 Euros to fund a one-year documentary project on migrants moving between the borders of Mexico and the US, which will be exhibited in 2006 at the Visa Pour L'Image photojournalism festival. Guzman will receive the prize at this year's Visa Pour L'Image, to be held August 29 to September 4 in Perpignan, France.

Guzman, 28, became a photojournalist in 2001 and says she has largely funded the project on her own, having few opportunities to publish in Mexico. She received a grant from the Mexican government and won the 2004 Inge Morath Award from Magnum Photos.

Lynsey Addario, who is represented by Corbis and has been published frequently in The New York Times and Time, won the Fujifilm Young Photographer Prize for her recent work in Iraq. Based in Istanbul, she documented life in Iraq prior the US invasion and has followed events there through the recent wave of violence by insurgen.

What use is having a great depth of field, if there is not an adequate depth of feeling?
